Cancun, Mexico, Here We Go!

Thanks to my cuate Manolo Guerrero (yep, the jQuery guy) I'll be offering a couple of keynotes at Mexico Web 2.0 next November. Many web guys from Latin America will be there, including a few of the great friends I met in Guatemala last year.

We'll have a few familiar speakers on the event as well: Leo Prieto, Christian van der Henst and Freddie Vega. I can only imagine what this gang will do during Cancun's nights.

The event's website is not ready yet but there's already some activity via Twitter.

So, start saving for your plane tickets and see you soon in Cancun!

A Facebook Bug Causes Lots of Headaches To Developers

Facebook logo

I had a good day yesterday. After spending almost six hours debugging a problem with Internet Explorer (yeah, old news) and a Drupal based Facebook application we're writing for 49st I finally found a solution.

However, this morning I found that the same code that was working yesterday showed some nasty error message. What now?

MacWorld 2008: Is Apple About To Launch A New Ultraportable?

Rumours onlike talk about Apple announcing a new ultraportable tomorrow at MacWorld 2008. Some have even guessed the new product could include Air as part of its name, maybe because of the There's something in the air message at Apple's website.

Looking forward to Steve Jobs' keynote in a few hours to decide if I start my gizmos wishlist for 2008 with an Apple toy.

Confirmed! It's the MacBook Air starting at US$ 1799.

Everex CloudBook, A New Ultra Portable Coming

Everex announced in CES 2008 that its new ultra portable: CloudBook, will be available at Walmart, and I think probably in many other online stores, on January 25th and will cost US$ 399.

Star Wars On Yahoo. Wassup!

I was subscribed to Star Wars Hyperspace for one year, I didn't use it too much, maybe because the site was too crowded and slow but I'm still a big Star Wars fan and receive all their newsletters weekly.

Today I got one telling me about the World of Star Wars at Yahoo. A new site with photos, videos, a forum and many other things related to Star Wars. I like it so far and looks easier to use and enjoy.

Real geeks, or simply guys over 30, should take a look.

Safari 3 Beta (And Works With Windows)

I've just noticed that Apple has launched a beta of Safari 3, its excellent browser. The good thing is it runs on Windows, something quite useful for those unhappy web developers who still hasn't got a Mac but need to test their site with Safari.

Of course we still need a Mac user to tell us if what we see in Safari Windows is the same we'd see in Safari Mac.

Now we only need Safari Linux to make this world a perfect place.

Where To Go For Black Friday 2007 Online

We are still a few hours from starting Black Friday, the name used in the United States for the day after Thanks Giving, but the offers have already started on many online stores.

Erik asked me what other sites, besides my all time preferred Amazon, are worth checking so I decided to make a short list, incomplete of course, of the sites I'm checking this weekend:

There are many notebooks below US$ 500 that make me doubt if I should get an Eee PC, a new System76 or a Macbook.

Yay!, it's hard to be a geek, specially when you don't get that PS3 offer on the first day of Amazon Vote.

Good luck shopping!

WiMax In Peru For 2008 Says Alcatel-Lucent

As the year goes by I read more and more about countries in Latin America using WiMax, the latest cases are Dominican Republic and Chile, and I'd love to read comments of some of my readers already using those services.

Besides, there's a good chance that Peru will have at least one WiMax network ready in 2008, that's what Mario Norero, Alcatel-Lucent's manager for Peru, Chile and Bolivia, says. Alcatel-Lucent is a big equipments provider and executives there surely have good insider information on networks deployments.

That's really good news isn't it? Finally Peruvians will have options to the unstable ADSL service provided by Telefonica.

Kindle: Amazon Wants To Put Fire On The Ebooks Market

We have been reading about this all year and now CNET publishes that Amazon could make the official announcement for its Kindle, the E Ink based ebook reader, this Monday 19. A move that could demonstrate, once and for all, that the electronic books market has a future, something I've always believed even if many tried to deny.

Holiday Season Begins: Choose Your Price And Gadget At Amazon

Would you like to choose your favorite products in Amazon and decide how much you wanna pay for them?

Why not? Amazon has just launched their Customers Vote campaign, this is the second year they do it, where you can choose your favorite products and prices in six categories and then, if you're one of the lucky winners, buy them.

There are great prices, like the Sony Playstation 3 for US$ 199 and the Panasonic HD camcorder for US$ 299 (that's like US$ 600 off the regular price).

Still here? Go vote at Amazon now and see if you can get your favorite gadget at a cool price (if your wife lets you, of course).
